Matthew Herbert, André de Ridder / 18.30 – 19.30

After they performed the minimal-music-milestone »In C« by Terry Riley together, Matthew Herbert and André de Ridder meet again at »Pop-Kultur«. The British artist Herbert is one of the most controversial phenomena in contemporary culture. Take eye surgery, the life of a pig or a sweat dripping music club: the producer, label-manager and musician is permanently seeking and discovering unusual sound sources. Most recently he spent a week in Berlin, producing art, actively involving of the public. The German conductor de Ridder, member of the music-collective stargaze, is no less active and works all over the globe. Apart from Herbert, he collaborated with the likes of Chen Shi-Zheng and Damon Albarn, with Julia Holter, Grant Hart, Lee Ranaldo, These New Puritans and 1000 Robota. Whoever still claims that pop and classical music do not belong together will be set straight by his co-operations.

This talk will be held in English.

Viv Albertine / 17.30 – 18.20
German premiere

»CLOTHES CLOTHES CLOTHES MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC BOYS BOYS BOYS« – possible topics for a conversation with Viv Albertine can be derived from the title of her first book. The former fashion design student was part of the inner circle of London‘s punk scene. She played with Sid Vicious in the Flowers of Romance and as guitarist of The Slits, she was a member of what was probably the best band of its time. The quartets impetuous energy outshone many of its fellow formations. Later, Albertine began to make movies, recorded a solo record and became a visual artist and book author.

Moderator: Anne Waak

The reading will be held in English.
